Secrets of a Successful Man 1: Wake Up and Do Something

5:30 in the morning might still be a little too successful for me right now.
5:30 in the morning might still be a little too successful for me right now. Wait…is that the pm light?

Honestly, my hardest thing to do every morning is get out of the warm embrace of my super comfy bed and move. It’s almost like my bed teases me when I walk away saying, “You’ll miss me a little when you’re gone.” In a drake voice.

I'll be right here in the same bed that you left me in for $18.00 plus shipping and handling.

But, recently, I’ve been reading articles about what some of these multi-millionaires do with their mornings. They all wake up but they don’t start sending out emails at the crack of dawn. They take that time for themselves. A lot of people wake up in the morning and exercise or walk. [Not so subtle tie in to yesterday’s post] But, the secret is, they take time when they can get it for themselves.

Personally, I’m a fan of exercise and running in the morning and at night leisurely walking in the evenings. Usually late around when the entire city of Bloomington goes to sleep at 11pm. I’m walking anywhere between midnight and 3am(when the library closes), listening to something contemplative or inherently soothing.

In the mornings, I get focused and amped to do something for the day. I put in my iPod and run or walk for a steady hour, just planning my day, reflecting on the day before and thinking about what would make today better.

Go Lemur, Go Lemur, Go Lemur!!!
Go Lemur, Go Lemur, Go Lemur!!!

I try to pray, go running, come back home, eat breakfast, shower and maybe take a nap (20mins tops if I did an extra mile) then attack my day. I always feel good and by the time everyone is finally awake, I am prepared for anything the day could throw at me. But, it doesn’t have to be exercising a working out in the mornings. Sometimes, like today, I sleep in, wake up naturally (no alarm clock) and write for a few hours before leaving my bed.

Early mornings are my time. My time to unravel and just be.
