I was talking to one of my best friends a few days back and he brought up the idea of preparing for the future. We consistently talk about laying foundations for our futures. This thinking manifests in our hobbies, careers, interpersonal relationships, clothes, and habits. Eventually we ended on grand scale thinking, legacy, and what they can do to change the world around us. Then a question came up: what have you done today to better prepare you for your tomorrow?
I was shocked. This seems like such a simple concept. Everyone dreams about the future but what are you doing to manifest it? Are you planning for tomorrow or are you just hoping for things to fall into place? Since I’ve started writing more, I’ve had to think longer into the future. I can’t continue to produce content if I am not processing the world around me. I ask myself, what tangible steps am I partaking in to prepare me for the next stage?
A few days ago, I created a logo for the blog. It was a piece of concept art that I created years ago that I never did anything with because I didn’t know anything about Graphic Design. I Google searched for twenty minutes for some basic online software and saved a preliminary version of the logo. Three years of waiting manifested in less than an hour. Now, if I do anything on my blog, I feel confident that I won’t have a blank image where my icon goes. It makes everything look just a little more professional.
I am finalizing domain names and the direction I want my blog to head. I have ideas about other business ventures and ways to reward my faithful readers as I gain steam. I want to create a community and help as many people as I can. This all starts with me being more purposeful with my actions.
If want to inspire people and claim that traveling will help them grow, I must go and travel myself. If I am claim that letting go of hurtful people in your life is beneficial, I must be willing to do the same. I do not want to be a ‘you should do”-blog with no proof of positive results. If there is no fruit, there is no point in my planting seeds. I am unfit to talk about progress and continual growth if you cannot see it in my life.
How do you reach those dreams? How do you become the person you want to be? Sometimes we struggle with our big dreams because we often freeze in terror in front of them. Start with the big dream and break it down into logical steps going backwards until you are at the simplest and smallest step. Don’t waste the days and let that idea ideally waste by in the back of notebook or receipt? God has given us these big dreams for a reason. It’s our job to start little by little, day by day, and reach those dreams. How do you move a mountain? One stone at a time.
Have any mountains you want to move? Have any big dreams that you want to examine? What steps are you taking to get closer to your dream? Let me know in the comments below.
