It’s not a secret that I am a HUGE fan of Shelly Massenburg-Smith aka D.R.A.M. (Does Real Ass Music) from Hampton Virginia. He just keeps getting better each time I see him. Yesterday morning, D.R.A.M. was invited to perform at the NPR Tiny Desk concert series where they have artists perform a selection of their music in the NPR offices.
The great thing about the NPR Tiny desk concerts is that it strips down the artists to who they really are. After D.R.A.M. got adjusted, post-Cash Machine, he truly shone through as a comical and light-hearted fellow. His infectious smile, stage presence, unique writing, and vocal capabilities prove that he has star power. Plus, with a Grammy nomination on the way, I expect even more from him years to come.
Set List:
- “Cash Machine”
- “Cute”
- “Sweet VA Breeze”
- “Special”
- “Broccoli”
You can check on D.R.A.M.’s e-home here.
I so want one…but not to keep. Just borrow for a few days and return home.
Bonus videos:
Last year, I Luv It was a permanent fixture on my party playlist. It’s not on D.R.A.M.’s album but deserves to be highlighted because of good vibes.
I Luv It – Sunny & Gabe ft. D.R.A.M.
Of course here’s D.R.A.M.’s first major hit

And as a special Bonus, I have to ORIGINAL Cha Cha with the Super Mario World Sample. (Don’t tell Nintendo)

What are your thoughts about the dread head from Hampton? How do you feel about NPR’s Tiny Desk series? Do you want a golden doodle too?
